STC Direct wants to take a moment to celebrate one of our dedicated team members. This month we sat down with Brendan O’Connor, an account manager on our team, to discuss life, business, and goals. O’Connor was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, but grew up in neighboring Blue Bell. He has been with our team since November of 2018.
How would your parents have described you as a kid?
“My parents would have described me as an athletic kid who was always dedicated to sports.”
Were you involved in any sports or extracurriculars?
“In high school, I played Varsity football”
How did that competitive environment help develop you?
“High school football was extremely competitive and from it, I was able to learn about teamwork, while also competing to be the best I could be on and off the field. I learned how to be a leader and how to push myself past my limits. I apply those traits in my life now with everything I do.
Did you have any idea you would end up in this field?
“I never imagined I would work in this field, however, I knew I was capable of doing more, so I took a chance and found out opportunities exist everywhere.”
Where did you work before joining our team?
“After a year in college, I still didn’t know what career path I wanted to focus on. I did tree work for a while and before STC Direct, I was a lead event coordinator that overlooked the setup of weddings and corporate parties.”
What is one life experience that you feel has shaped you?
“Many different experiences have shaped me into the person I am today, however, one in particular, would be after I got injured and couldn’t play football anymore. For a couple of years, I was going through the motions and not working towards anything significant until one day I decided I could be better. Since then, I’ve kept my head up and realized more doors will open, especially with the right mindset.”
What is something we might not know just by looking at you?
“One thing you may not know about me just by looking at me is that I am an avid gamer. For certain games, there is a competitive edge needed in order to be great. It’s not something I focus on heavily but when I have free time, I enjoy getting a few games in on my days off.”
What were your first thoughts when starting with the company? What was something unique you noticed?
“It was unlike any work environment I had been around before. Something unique I noticed when I first started was the high energy that filled the office.”
How would you describe the culture at your company?
“If I had to describe the culture at our office, I would say that we are a high energy family that ensures everyone is working towards their goals. All of us have each other’s backs, which makes going to work more desirable.”
What has been your best memory with the company?
“My best memory with the company so far has been the Eastern Conference. Seeing the larger scale of our business and hearing the stories from others showed me that the opportunity is there for everyone.”
What is something you’ve learned through your work you didn’t know before?
“Something I’ve learned from my work is that positive thinking leads to positive results. Your mindset and attitude are key when it comes to whatever you want to achieve.”
How has this career changed you as a person?
“Although it’s been 6 months with the company, the impact from it has already changed me for the better. Every day I’m learning new ways to grow as an individual inside and outside of work.”
Do you have any mentors inside/outside of work?
“Before STC Direct, I was searching for a mentor to try and guide me towards a better future, but since starting in the company, I’ve been given multiple different leaders and managers to learn from and better myself.”
When he’s not inspiring others and reaching goals in the STC Direct office, Brendan can be found staying active on the basketball court or in the gym. His goals for the company are clear. “I want to learn as much as possible while working towards management and eventually be able to give others the same opportunity I was given.”
