Have you ever met someone who’s entire philosophy on life was to go at things 110%? Those people are rare and their energy levels are one of a kind, but their impact can be felt by every single person in their vicinity. At STC Direct, we have the pleasure of working with someone of this nature, and to say his mentality is contagious would be an understatement. He has injected our entire office with a “go big or go home” mindset, and we couldn’t be more fortunate to have such an outgoing, no-excuses, results-oriented leader in our business – a leader like Account Manager, Eric Poust.
In honor of being recognized as this month’s “Rising Star,” we decided to do an exclusive Q&A with Eric to learn more about his history, time with STC Direct, and growth plans with the company!
Alright, Eric, tell us about your childhood and your environment growing up?!
I was born in Telford, PA and was an only child for the first 5 years of my life until my 2 younger siblings joined the world! I’ve always been a bit of a free-thinker and a follow my own rules kind of kid, so growing up I enjoyed getting into things, figuring out what worked for me, and pushing boundaries (and my mom’s nerves – ha)!
What activities were you into as a kid/teenager?
I got into lacrosse in middle school and stayed with the sport until my graduation. I liked the roughness of the sport and the camaraderie of playing with a group of people who all had common goals and work ethic. I was also into auto-mechanics and in high school participated in a co-op program that allowed me to work 2 full days of the week at an auto-body detailing shop and attend school the other 3 days!
What did automechanics teach you about what you wanted in a career?
It taught me a lot about myself, and mostly that I didn’t want to work for someone else and I needed work that was more engaging and face-to-face with people. Immediately after graduating, I found STC Direct and knew that I had found somewhere that would challenge me, allow me to grow, and not be micromanaged.
What did you notice first about working with STC Direct?
I noticed really quickly that having a commission option for pay meant I could make as much as I wanted and I liked that. I’m willing to work really hard now for the life I want in the future, so it’s comforting to know that I’m deciding my bonuses and commissions based on my effort. Work harder, make more money. I also noticed that the team was like family and they each genuinely loved being there and the mission of the company.
What are your goals in 2018?
I want to help STC Direct expand into Toronto, Canada! By helping our client grow internationally, I want to put myself in a position financially to be a millionaire by the time I hit my 30s. With financial freedom, I want to travel the world and live a life of luxury. I will be promoted to an Assistant Management position by the end of May, and management by the end of November.
What advice do you have for the team at STC Direct?
Keep having fun at work, keep pushing to be the #1 sales office for our client quarter after quarter (who doesn’t want to work for a winning company?!), and keep demanding excellence from your people.
