1.Be relentlessly perseverant in the pursuit of what you want
There’s a saying that if you don’t work to build your dreams, someone will hire you to build theirs and we couldn’t agree with it more. In order to receive a promotion at STC Direct, you must first visualize the position you see yourself in, and then not rest until you’ve attained it. Despite obstacles, hardships, or setbacks, you must push forth because if you don’t, no one else will do it for you.
2.Work harder than the person standing next to you
If you want to hold any role higher than the one you have, you HAVE to be willing to put in the time and effort for it. If someone is willing to work 8 hours for it, you better be ready to put in 9. Olympians don’t place gold because they spend fewer hours in the gym.
3. Be reliable and selfless to others
The best leaders aren’t self-serving, they’re selfless. They care for their people’s success and by being a servant to others, find themselves reaching their own goals. If they say they’re going to be somewhere or do something, they follow through because they know how important it is to stick to their word.
4. Have low excuses and high accountability
If you want to assume higher roles within the company, you have to free yourself of making excuses and replace that with taking control of your actions. If you come up short or make a mistake, you have to take accountability of the situation instead of blaming everyone around you.
5.”Act as if”
If you want to be in a leadership role, start acting as if you already hold that position! Dress for the role, go above your current job description, coach/mentor others. That initiative and ownership is so attractive and shows the commitment needed from the company’s next manager!
6. Make a name for yourself for all the right reasons
Work to become the BEST! The most punctual, the best student, the best trainer, the highest performer – whatever it may be if you have the respect of your peers that will precede you when it comes promotion time!
7. Surround yourself with people who make you better
Perhaps the easiest way to find yourself closer to a promotion is to surround yourself with eagles, not ducks! Associate with the company’s best & brightest – the superstars who are going places. The saying “you are like the 5 people you spend the most time with” is dead on, so why wouldn’t you want to surround yourself with people who push you to be better personally and professionally?
